Cowboy Baby Shower Invitations: Shoot-Em Up Baby Showers

No, the title of this piece doesn’t mean I think guns should be drawn at baby showers.  Rather I’m talking about what is becoming a very popular theme for showers.  Most baby showers these days have some sort of theme, whether it’s space, or the Old West, or just a sex of the baby theme like one planned for a boy or a girl.  There are zoo themes and ladybug themes, and really any kind of theme anyone could come up with.

With the explosion of the internet, the themes have become almost unimaginably numerous.  However one of the most popular is and probably always will be the cowboy theme.  This particular approach comes complete with cowboy baby shower invitations, cowboy placemats, cowboy centerpieces, and even cowboys wall hangings.

Games abound that can be played which clearly fall into a cowboy theme.  Whether it’s a light target shooting game with rubber darts (or paint ball guns if you want to go all out) or a “calf roping” game, there are plenty of fun activities to entertain yourself with.

The question isn’t what can you do with a cowboy themed baby shower, but rather how exactly you want to carry it out.  Cowboy baby shower invitations come in many shapes and sizes, and the first thing you’re going to have to do after deciding on the theme, is exactly how to do the party.

As a general rule, the cowboy theme is more of a coed shower theme than some of the other ones.  While baby showers are traditionally a celebration of the impending first born of a family, the women of the family, as well as their friends.  As the tradition of the baby shower has evolved over the centuries, men are finally being invited and even expected to attend.

A proper planning of the baby shower must take this into account.  The invitations should be happy, go-lucky and bright without being overtly cute.  The invitations should also be clear that both men and women are invited and that both the mother and the father of the baby are going to be attending as well.  The games can take the coed function into account as well, with partner type games that can be easily adapted.  The target practice games can simply be a team affair, while the roping game could be one person “roping” the other.  This of course shouldn’t actually be hog tying, but more than likely a light, open knot that can be thrown over the head of their partner.

The point of any baby shower is above all else to remember that it’s supposed to be fun.  No matter what theme you choose, no matter what games or what decorations, or what food you decide to serve, the purpose of it all is to celebrate a momentous occasion with family and friends.  If the importance of the party takes precedence over the desire to have fun, then the party will be an unmitigated disaster, if fun prevails, an unqualified success
