Coed Baby Shower Invitations: Baby Showers Expanding to Include Men

If you had asked Franz Schauer, the German immigrant and baby shower inventor why he came up with the idea, his answer would most likely have been that he was simply looking for a means to an end.  Schauer was a businessman who saw a new way to get people to buy his products.  His essential inventing of a holiday of sorts was a money making idea, and not much else.  Today, some two hundred years after the baby shower was invented, it’s still a money making idea, but it’s grown into something more than that as well.  Baby showers have also become a place for friends and family to get together and have good old fashioned fun.

While the baby shower concept has changed one thing had remained the same for a much longer period of time, the idea of a baby shower was still a women’s only event  Men were not expected, nor invited to the showers, and it was a fact that was almost universally understood.  In that respect, in recent years, the tradition has begun to morph into something altogether different.

Coed is the new popular term, with a society that has tried to remove the invisible barriers between the roles of both men and women, and in a small part turning the baby shower into a coed event is one of those ways to blur the lines.

When dealing with a coed baby shower, as with all baby showers, you need to pick out the right coed baby shower invitations.  These won’t be much different than any other shower, but should include enough information that the men know they too are invited.  The only other factors that need to come into play when deciding which coed baby shower invitations you pick will be the theme of the party.

While picking out the theme is also a fun time, it is essential to focus on the fact that you are inviting both men and women for these particular kinds of showers.  It won’t do to pick a theme that lands too heavily on the female side, as the men who are invited will feel uncomfortable, and in turn will diminish the fun had by the women.  The theme also shouldn’t resort to favoring the men too much.  Baby showers are still more for women than they are for men, and because of this, unless you turn it into a football party with some mentions of a baby thrown in, the men are never going to be as interested as the women.

The final thoughts should be dedicated to the type of decorations one wants to have at a coed baby shower.  Once again, the thought must be given that both men and women have a different view at what to expect at an occasion like this.  While men need to be made to feel comfortable, any baby shower organizers need to realize that the party is always going to be more about the arrival of the baby.
